Features[]

  • Added a new cave to Raven's Cove: Funesto's Forge.
    • This mysterious new location is accessible through a new opening in El Patron's Mine.
    • This location is intended to serve as an alternate looting spot as a result of the server consolidations earlier this fall.

  • Added two new ghost types: Vengeful and Scornful ghosts.
    • These angry ghosts are much more powerful and far more numerous than the mutinous ghosts of El Patron's Mine.
    • The loot pools for these two new ghost types are identical to the normal pools of the other ghosts of El Patron's Mine, minus Cajun Staff.

  • Added a new legendary, Jack Sparrow's Revenge (JSR), to the Black Pearl Boss Battle!
    • This was released in a prior server reboot, but is being documented in today's release notes.
    • JSR and Jack Sparrow's Spyglass are in their own separate loot pools. Receiving one of these in loot does not mean you missed out on getting the other.
  • Added 2 new famed Black Licorice swords!
    • The Black Licorice Sabre drops from land French Undead Enemies.
    • The Black Licorice Broadsword drops from land Spanish Undead Enemies.

  • Fixed a bug where the Black Pearl's sails would sometimes not be visible during the final Goliath cutscene.
  • Fixed lighting in the Tortuga Secret Shop.

  • Today is Day 2 of Twelve Days of Celebration!
    • This update brings with it a nostalgic journey back to 2008, as we reintroduce the classic caves and interiors! Experience the original adventure that captivated us all once again!

Features[]

  • Added Devil's Anvil to Original Island Lobbies featuring the original Barbossa's Grotto!
  • Added Isla Tormenta to Original Island Lobbies featuring the original Cursed Caverns, back then it was known only as the "Tormenta Cave"!
    • Did ye know that Isla Tormenta was originally going to be named Outcast Island, and Outcast Island was going to be named Isla Tormenta?
  • Added all Caves & Interiors to Port Royal, Tortuga, and Padres del Fuego!
  • Added the bosses that appear on the original islands to the main game loot pool (and yes, that includes the corresponding legendary drops for General Hex and Neban the Silent!)
  • Added back the original 2008 lighting system. All original islands, caves, swamps, and jungles should have a slightly darker tint to them that fits with how things were in the game back then.
  • Added proper loading screens for all the original island game areas (jungles, caves, swamps).
  • Added 17 new trivia signposts to the original islands.
  • Added new mini-maps for several original caves.
  • Unlocked some unreleased building interiors on the original islands that Disney never opened.

Maintenance[]

  • Original Island Lobbies have been re-added. Thank ye for yer patience while we worked through some bugs we were having with them!
  • Optimized performance in the original cave using some new techniques we employed in our newer TLOPO cave areas.
  • Upscaled the lava in Original Beckett's Quarry, as it was quite pixel-y before (it's still pixel-y, but it's better, we swear!)
  • Vegetation and rocks on the original islands are now dynamically loaded to fix some visual issues.

Bugfixes[]

  • Fixed a bug where the sand footstep sound was used in Barbossa's Grotto instead of the correct cave footstep sound.

  • Silver Striker currently has incorrect stats. We will be fixing this in a future update.

    • Now, a barely charged Take Aim will perform the same as a hip shot.

  • Fixed a bug which caused all pirate jewelry to be rendered on their character even while not equipped.
    • The jewelry was being rendered in a hidden state, so it was not visible to the eye; but this was causing large amounts of lag in crowds.
  • Fixed a bug where every time a pirate whispered another pirate, the recipient's entire pirate avatar object was being re-queried from the database.
    • We now perform pre-caching of all pirate names in the game and make this dictionary available in a performant way to each ocean, removing the database overhead from this system entirely.

Maintenance[]

  • We have modified our Astron database state server configurations to bucket pirate, guild, and account objects into a more performant distribution.
    • This will more evenly utilize all of our sharded game server resources, hopefully reducing the lag when querying one of these objects.
  • NPC boss names are now all red.
  • Optimized how Healing Aura works on the backend.
  • Optimized how stack quantities (like ship materials, for example) are set/stored in a pirate.
    • This significantly reduces login overhead.
  • Significant code cleanup, which should result is better game performance.
  • Temporarily turned off Original Island lobbies. We noticed an issue with them and should have it resolved in our next update.

Known Issues[]

  • Shortly after deploying, we became aware of a visual bug with lobbies. As soon as we have a fix prepared for this, we are going to do a very brief update to patch it.

    • Highlight: The "search for clues" and "find Myrna's body" tasks in Hollowed Woods now work properly.
  • Fixed a bug where bonus rewards in the Hollowed Woods quests would be awarded without completing the bonus tasks.
  • Fixed a bug where Captain Windshadow and his henchmen would sometimes be invisible upon entry into the Hollowed Woods Town Hall.
  • Fixed a bug where completing Hollowed Woods Undead Poker quests would trigger Raven's Cove-related dialogue from the undead poker players.
  • Fixed a bug where Lump Fish would not count towards the bonus Lump Fish task in a Hollowed Woods quest.

  • Arrrrgh, Bilgewater be the land of gold. Golden skeletons, the shopkeepers be greedy rotten bilge rats, and now the fish have started changing colors too! Fish in the fishing minigame on Bilgewater have been retextured to be gold, matching the golden theme of the island.
    • Golden fish have higher gold rewards compared to regular fish!
  • Weapon Upgrade quests have been reworked thanks to YOUR feedback!
    • All Weapon Upgrade quests no longer appear in your journal by default. Instead, you must pick them up like a side quest.
    • You are no longer required to have completed the level 15 Weapon Upgrade quests to begin the level 20 Weapon Upgrade quests, but you must still have reached level 20 in the appropriate reputation track.
    • You can now drop Weapon Upgrade quests from your journal.
  • Weapon Upgrade Quests can now be picked up from the following NPCs:
    • Alexander Thayer (Tri-Barrel Pistol)
    • Erasmus Grimsditch (Grand Pistol)
    • Ferrera (Bloodletter Dagger)
    • John Wallace (Coltello Dagger)

Bugfixes[]

  • Added some background functionality to prevent quest mismatches between the journal and the external quest database.
  • Fixed a bug causing repair mini game to ignore progress updates.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed players to pick up a quest that was already in their journal.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed the Secret of Raven's Cove Teleportation quest to be droppable from the quest journal.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented certain quests like El Patron's Lost Weapons from being droppable from the quest journal.
  • Fixed a bug where 3D glasses setting did not work.
  • Fixed a bug where character bodies were discolored in Make a Pirate and store item previews.
  • Fixed a bug where environment background colors were not properly syncing in caves, affecting visual immersion.
  • Fixed a bug where exhaust would last longer than it should in PvP.
    • Extra details: It only happens with the Warlord family of dolls, since they're the only ones where exhaust lasts longer than its cooldown. When you use exhaust on someone for a second time before the first casting has timed out, their timer above their health bar does not reset from their perspective. From the caster's point of view, the timer starts fresh and everything works as it should. But for the person being exhausted, the timer above their own health bar continues to run out as if it were only the first casting and then disappears. It does not reset. As long as the caster continues putting exhaust up before it runs out, the icon never comes back for them.
  • Fixed a bug where Fort Charles on Original Port Royal would be invisible on low settings.
  • Fixed a bug causing players to keep turning infinitely after using a skill while turning.
  • Fixed a bug where jewelry would sometimes show on the wrong eyebrow.
  • Fixed a bug where lens flares would not properly clean up.
  • Fixed a bug where players could infinitely rotate while walking and in combat.
  • Fixed a bug where players could not see other players casting while fishing.
    • You can now see what fish they caught too!
  • Fixed a bug where quest tasks that were already completed were stuck in the journal.
  • Fixed a bug where the female shoes in the Spanish Adventurer Peddler set were not sold at some Peddlers.
  • Fixed a bug where the legendary loot drop sound effect would not play during the Hollowed Woods event.
  • Fixed a bug where the sky would not transition properly between cloudy and normal sky settings.
  • Fixed a bug where the sun and moon would render in front of clouds in the sky. They are now properly hidden when the sky is cloudy.
  • Fixed a bug where you could willfully drop Chapter 4 from your quest journal.
  • Fixed a bug with collisions that was caused by our model flattening system.
  • Fixed a crash from the original island grid being too large for the current grid system, causing out of range errors on player position broadcast updates.
  • Fixed a crash related to minimap glow effects.
  • Fixed a crash with flagship wave spawning.
  • Fixed a crash with the Golden Goblin Shark icon.
  • Fixed a crash with the Exhaust Mojo Doll skill.

  • Fixed various memory leaks with almost every particle effect. Ye ever notice a random floating flame, some random smoke, or some other effect hanging out somewhere it shouldn't? That's this bug. Begone!

  • Hardware skinning is now working as intended! This was broken because we were applying the skinning too early and we were applying it to too many model nodes.
    • The result was that animation skinning was happening on the CPU, gross!
    • Now the most expensive animation skinning is happening on the GPU.
  • Updated the engine to a newer version of Panda3D, bringing many bugfixes and improvements.

  • Stamina is now displayed to be less confusing. There is a "stamina" label and the colors have been flipped; red is max stamina green is low (since low fish stamina is good for the player).
  • Stamina now has a few special boosts in some situations:
    • The fish loses stamina at a constant rate, as before.
    • If you win the "Struggle" phase the fish loses some extra stamina.
    • If you lose the "Struggle" phase the fish gains some extra stamina.
    • If you are within the green of the Struggle bar the fish loses stamina at an increased rate over time.
    • If you are within the red of the Struggle bar the fish gains stamina over time.
    • Fish gains stamina in the "Catch It" phase, catch the handle quick to avoid stamina gain over time.
  • Swapped brow jewelry’s positions to match rings while equipping from the inventory GUI.
  • The first loading screen on login will now randomly alternate between the Bilgewater expansion art and the classic loading screen from POTCO.
  • The fishing mini-game's fish pool will now reset after 5 minutes of no players using the fishing spot.
  • The stamina stat for the legendary fish stat decreased based on FPS. Now multiplied by the delta time since last task run to stay consistent.
  • Tweaked ocean zone boundaries to make more sense and fill up all available space

Known Issues[]

  • If you have a Weapon Upgrade quest in your journal, you may need to turn in your current tasks for that quest before it can become droppable. Once you are assigned a new task from an NPC, those new tasks will allow your quest to be dropped.
  • We fixed some instances where tattoo icons would not show up in inventories, but the bug may still occasionally happen.
