Skewer is a special ability usually found on sabres. It does a good deal of damage. When used, your pirate jumps forward, thrusting out his blade. It can be used to attack several enemies at once, and wounds the enemy. Skewer is a Break Attack, and thus charges when the pirate receives damage.
