Every game has specific words and acronyms that can be confusing to someone new to the game. This category covers Pirates of the Caribbean Online game terms and acronyms. If there is a term or acronym not listed here please add it or leave a note on the talk page.
An Acronyms is an abbreviation of a name or phrase using only some letters from each word in the name or phrase. Most acronyms use the first letter of each word.
Note: This is a Disney game, please keep that in mind when adding new terms to our coverage.
Game Terms/Terminology[]

| Aggro | Short for Aggression. Could refer to attracting enemy NPC's or how their attraction level. |
| Boot | To be kicked out; or to have to restart the computer |
| Boss | An enemy that is much stronger than normal, often encountered at the end of a level or quest. |
| Buff | Temporary boost to abilities of player character or to improve effectiveness of a game element. |
| Camping | Waiting in an area for an enemy to respawn |
| Cooldown | An amount of time before an ability or weapon can be used or reloaded. |
| Damage | Any effect that lowers the health of the player character, NPC or object. |
| DC | Disconnected |
| Debuff | Opposite of Buff, something that weakens abilities |
| D.O.T. | Damage over Time. An attack or effect that causes damage to continue to occur. |
| Experience | Progress given to increase a player character's abilities or health, etc. |
| Farming | To kill the same enemies in the same area to level skills or gather loot. |
| First Person | Seeing the game as though you are the player character. |
| FPS | Frames Per Second. How fast the game can process animation. Or First Person Shooter. |
| Griefer | A player who deliberately irritates and harasses other players |
| Grind | Continuously killing the same enemies or doing the same tasks to advance. |
| Heal | To restore the health of another |
| Health | Points that represent one’s ability to absorb additional punishment |
| Inventory | The collection of all the items the player character possesses or is carrying. |
| Jumper | Jumpers use directional keys to jump and right-click/drag with the mouse to circle their opponent, which makes it harder to get hit in PvP or while battling enemies. |
| kiting | A tactic a player uses to attract a group of enemies and keep them chasing your character. |
| Loot | Rewards, usually for killing an enemy or completing a task. |
| MMO | Massively Multiplayer Online - a game where a lot of players share the same environment. |
| MMORPG | An MMO using Role-Playing mechanics or portraying a character. |
| mob | Short for Mobile. It usually refers to enemies who move to attack the player character. |
| Nerf | To reduce the effectiveness of a game element. Opposite of Buff. |
| Newbie | A new player in the game, a nicer version of the term noob |
| NPC | Non-Player Character. An interactive ally or enemy operated by the computer. |
| Noob | A pejorative version of the term Newbie often used as an insult |
| O.P. | Something in the game that unbalances game play is said to be OP or "Over Powered" |
| PVE | Player vs. Environment. Refers to combating AI enemies. Opposite of PvP. |
| PVP | Player vs. Player. Refers to competitive game play between players. |
| Quest | A series of tasks the player must complete to receive a reward or level up. |
| Respawn | To reappear after having been defeated |
| Spawn | When a player or NPC character appears. |
| Tank | A strong player that can take a lot of damage, often used to protect lower-level players |
